Shadow of Mordor was a surprising game for everyone. Lord of The Ring games have never exactly been Game of The Year material, there have been some average entries over the years, such as Guardians of Middle Earth, but never anything that really stood out.
Then out of the blue Shadow of Mordor appeared on the radar, appearing on almost everyone's top games list for 2014, and we can see why. Monolith took the combat system from the Arkham series and combined it with the famous exploration system from the AC games to make a unique creation.
Furthermore a new gaming programme was introduced called the "Nemesis System", which has been described as "revolutionary". This along with a great story and open-world experience has probably made Shadow of Mordor one of the best Next-Gen releases yet.
In general there has never been a sequel to a LoTR game. However I think Monolith and WB are onto a winning series, and I'll be surprised if we don't see a sequel very soon.
The Nemesis System is definitely something that could be developed and expanded upon in Shadow of Mordor 2. The player could be giving the control of large armies and the basic principles of the Nemesis System could decide the outcome. The combat system doesn't feel like something that needs any more improvement. It always makes sure the player has a realistic amount of in-game power unlike games such as AC, yet it's still a very impressive system with great features such as executions.
Multiplayer would be great to see in Shadow of Mordor 2. Whether a PvP aspect is created or yu can work together with other players to take down large orc-groups. Regardless I look forward to seeing what Monolith have in store for us next.
