The Future of Gaming
Gaming never stops developing and evolving. Since the first Xbox console in 2001 there have been 2 new consoles released, each with new advancements that couldn’t have been predicted in the past. I doubt the developing team on the first Xbox console could have imagined what power and capabilities their 3rd console would have 12 years down the line.
Another brilliant example of changes that have occurred in gaming is the games themselves. GTA San Andreas vs GTA V for example. In the 9 years between the release of the two we saw the development of high definition 3D graphics, multiplayer, modifications and a whole new world of graphic design. In the Golden Age of technological changes that is the 21st century we have seen so many amazing breakthroughs in recent years. Take virtual reality for one. In recent years we have seen much promising progress in virtual reality, especially relative to the gaming world. With the development of Oculus Rift and Sony VR for the PS4, it won't be long until we see the utilisation of such technology become common in gaming.
One thing that I have noticed personally is the incorporation of a wider range of technology in new gaming systems such as the Xbox One. Think about the new Kinect system. It not only contains skeletal tracking software but also a video camera, microphone array and most importantly a depth sensor, which is the crucial part of the system. This system gives Kinect it's ability to recognise spaces and the people within them. It'll be interesting to see what new devices come into play as we get better at incorporating these forms of technology.
Pokemon GO is a perfect example of another key in the future of gaming, Augmented Reality. AR utilises the real life environment and supplements it with computerised data to provide an experience, such as audio and graphics. Although Pokemon GO is a very primitive form of gaming it will be interesting to see where this technology will take us.
Consoles themselves are also changing. Gone are the days where we wait years and years for the next generation of consoles. It isn't even 3 years since the release of the Xbox One however we've already seen the release of Xbox One S. Which is slimmer and supports 4K movies and HDR.
With all these changes coming to gaming it's important to stay up to date, so here are some links from us:
