Backwards compatibility for Xbox One is finally here. Originally Microsoft didn't think this would be possible, but what they've done is built a virtual Xbox 360, entirely composed of software, which can be operated on the Xbox One. Old 360 games will be transferred to an emulator and run through emulation on the Next-Gen console. Through the Xbox One players will have access to the old 360 Guide, meaning you can now play and party chat with 360 players along with all the other stuff you can normally do on your 360, through the One. Of course you'll also be able to use the new Xbox One features such as screenshot and Game DVR, whilst playing the 360 titles. Exciting stuff.
Microsoft has said when it comes to the public 100 Xbox 360 titles will be ready to play. If you own any of these titles digitally on 360, they will appear in your Ready to Install section on the One where they can be downloaded similar to how games are downloaded from the Xbox Store. When it comes to 360 discs, the One will recognize the disc and then allow you to download the 360 title. However the disc will still be required for playing the game, like how discs are currently played on the One.
Currently this system is available to all Xbox Preview members, and it'll come to the general public later this year. Microsoft have said over time updates will be made to the Game Catalog making more and more 360 games available.
Amazingly this brand new service will be completely free and Gold membership is also not required. PS4 will now be the only Next-Gen console without backwards compatibility. Microsoft are hoping this new development along with the release of some major titles such as Halo 5 will draw in all those undecided 360 players and personally I think if that isn't enough to make you go out and buy yourself a One, then you're crazy.
