Major League Gaming (MLG) is a professional eSports organization. MLG headquarters are located in New York. MLG was created in 2002 by Sundance DiGiovianni and Mike Sepso. In 2006 MLG became the first video game league to be televised in the United States. Since then official game tournaments have been held throughout the United States and Canada. MLG's aim is to "elevate computer and console game tournaments to viable competitive and spectator events".
MLG runs Championship Leagues all year round. These showcase the best players in the world and those competing for huge prize draws, the biggest in history being $1,000,000. MLG also gives opportunities to gamers outside of these leagues, other online tournaments such as GameBattles enable players to collect Pro Points. These determines a player's ranking worldwide, and gives them the ability to move up the ladders to the Pro Series.
Gamebattles is available for a huge variety of games from Call of Duty to Destiny and Halo. Ladders can be monetised or casual, and teams have the ability to challenge themselves to increase their standings.
MLG’s reach is expanding beyond online viewing. The first ever MLG stadium is under construction in China where eSports competitions will happen daily, to be broadcasted across MLG.tv, which is the dedicated broadcast system for all major tournaments.
